Panos Giannikopoulos (Athens, 1991) is an art historian and curator whose practice moves between research, exhibition-making, writing, and institutional development. In 2024, he served as curator of the Greek Pavilion at the 60th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia. Earlier, he was a member of the curatorial team of Mediterranea 19, Young Artists Biennale.
His exhibition practice includes large-scale, site-responsive projects such as A Rave Down Below for Eleusis 2023, European Capital of Culture (2023–2024) and This Current Between Us at the PPC Historic Steam Electric Station of Neo Faliro (2022–2023). Across these projects, his curatorial approach engages with questions of urban transformation, social intensity, political ecology, and the boundaries between bodies, infrastructures, and environments.
Giannikopoulos holds an MA in Gender, Society and Politics from Panteion University, following undergraduate studies in History, Archaeology, and History of Art at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Thessaly, where his research critically examines post-humanist theory and contemporary artistic practices.
Since 2018, he has been collaborating with ARTWORKS and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Fellowship Program, where he is coordinating the organization’s residency programs and artistic initiatives. His institutional work is marked by a sustained interest in collective processes, forms of care, and the political conditions of cultural production.
He has collaborated with a wide range of museums, galleries, and art organizations in Greece and abroad, including GAMeC, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, the Institute of Contemporary Greek Art – iset, B. & M. Theocharakis Foundation, Art Athina and Athens Biennale.
Alongside his curatorial practice, Giannikopoulos writes regularly for publications and exhibition catalogues. He is the editor of the 70th anniversary volume 70 Acts of the Athens Epidaurus Festival. In 2016, he was Curatorial Fellow at the Schwarz Foundation, and in 2021 he received the Curatorial Award Premio Lorenzo Bonaldi per l’Arte – EnterPrize.
