Ojan Zargarbashi

Yeniköy, January 2022

Ojan Zargarbashi is an Iranian artist born in 1976 in Tehran. He studied electronic engineering at Tehran Azad University. Through the years, he has been active as an artist creating paintings, photography, music and moving images with his works. However, his main focus has always been painting and drawing; Ojan uses different mediums and techniques to realize his ideas.

With a background in engineering, he has a passion for science and its relation with nature and human beings. Many of his recent works have been shaped around these relationships as he tries to narrate what he has in his mind through painting and drawing. He also creates some of these narratives in the format of text and uses them in some installations of his works. These narratives are usually about the future of humankind, human achievements, and the fears and challenges that people face.

During his residency at Gate 27, Ojan plans to produce small drawings and paintings ranging from portraits to landscapes that will narrate the story of travelling in time and space, using the elements he usually discovers through this process of thinking and drawing. He will also work on pieces of short footage he took during the last two years related to the whole concept. This project will be the continuation of his last two exhibitions: “The Revelations” and ” If for a moment”. The first exhibition was about picturing the human being in a specific time span in the future in the form of portraits. In the second exhibition, he sought to use elements that he happened to discover in the previous project and tell the story behind the process of the first exhibition.
