Gate 27, farklı pratiklerin araştırma ve üretim süreçlerini desteklemek ve disiplinlerarası etkileşime zemin yaratmak amacıyla 2019’da kurulmuş bir uluslararası konuk sanatçı programıdır.
Beyza Durhan’s artistic practice primarily consists of collages and three-dimensional installations produced with biomaterials. In her early works, her production process involved tools from wildlife and beeswax, which later evolved into an interdisciplinary approach. Her inquiry into how to form partnerships with non-human beings led her to explore modes of communication beyond those familiar to humans, which prompted her turn toward biomaterials. She expanded her practice by building bridges between the practices of nature and art.
In her recent work, while producing research-based and site-specific pieces, she continues to focus on bringing together the modes of communication she experienced in wildlife contexts across both physical and digital realms. She recreates an event she observed in nature or a regional story by cutting and shaping biomaterials into collages, then places these permeable collages in front of a looping video, filmed in the same location. To articulate her site-based observations and research, she moves fluidly between different media.
