Zeynep Ağırbaş

Yeniköy, June 2023

Zeynep Ağırbaş (İstanbul, 1999) completed her BA in Textiles at Central Saint Martins University in London in 2022. Her interest in Anatolian craft inspired her designs during her university years. In the final year of her degree, she used the scholarship she received from the “Worshipful Company of Framework Knitters” to collaborate with craftspeople from Turkey. Her final collection, “Psychedelic Anatolia,” which is based on the story from 70’s Anatolian Rock and Sarıkeçili Nomads, was published in Vogue UK and ELLE UK magazines in the “Young Designers to Follow in the Future” section.

With the Craft Antakya project, which she started after the earthquake, Ağırbaş supports the artisans who suffered from the disaster in Hatay, and aims to create new sales channels and sales revenue for regional producers. By enabling the products made by local producers to meet with consumers nationally, the project works to increase the usage areas and awareness of the products. In addition, in the future, it aims to work with producers to establish an ecosystem that they can nourish in terms of branding and marketing and to create a model that benefits from cooperation.

At Gate 27, Ağırbaş will continue to work on bringing Craft Antakya to a wider audience, as well as accelerating the integration of infrastructure, financial resources and electronic commerce processes so that craftsmen in the region can promptly start their production.
