Christina Dimitriadis was born in 1967 Thessaloniki, Greece. She lives and works in Berlin. She studied Film and Video at Parsons School of Design and New School for Social Research. She uses photography as a medium to express an autobiographical stance based on human relationships in terms of the concept of identity. The notions of experience and memory are the primary tools of her work.
The artist will concentrate on a new photography project during her stay at Gate 27. Christina traces the hidden links between two cities and two cultures that were connected through the Byzantine and Ottoman empires and shared a common heritage for over 500 years. Geographically and geologically united by land and sea, these cities in the present time of world history again face a rapidly growing gap of alienation. The artist’s aim is to search for various elements in these two cities to create a common visual dictionary that is both understandable and familiar. Her studies in Istanbul will revolve around extensive collaborations with local curators, writers, historians, architects and artists as well as with institutions, libraries and archives.
