Abigail Reynolds

Istanbul, September 2024

Abigail Reynolds works across a wide range of media, including sculpture, collage, print and live event work. Using techniques such as overlay and folding derived from collage, she reworks historic images and events. Folding references through one another, she draws attention to aspects that are almost forgotten, opening them up for fresh experience and reinterpretation. She is based in far west Cornwall, a place she interrogates through her work which is often formed in close dialogue with people from other disciplines: geologists, electronic music producers, palaeobiologists, librarians and brass bands. In 2016, Reynolds was awarded the BMW Art Journey Prize at Art Basel to travel to lost libraries along the Silk Road. Her book “Lost Libraries”, documenting this journey, was published by Hatje Cantz in 2018. Through 2020-2022, her work was featured in British Art Show 9, the landmark touring exhibition that defines new directions in contemporary art. Her work is represented in public collections including New York Public Library, the Government Arts Collection and the Arts Council Collection.

During her residency at Gate 27, the artist will work on a project encompassing a series of outdoor installations in which she uses wind, light and shadow as the core materials.
