We’re thrilled to announce our groundbreaking collaboration between Gate 27, international creative residency program, and ORTA, the renowned denim fabric manufacturer with over 70 years of textile expertise and a commitment to sustainability through their Bluesky program.  

Through the fusion of arts, culture, and sustainable practices, Gate 27 aims to make its mark on the sustainability landscape, while ORTA seeks to communicate its sustainability initiatives through the lens of arts and culture. 

Between October 1-31, 2023, a total of 25 applications were received through Gate 27’s website for participation in the program. An independent jury consisting of curators Ulya Soley and Xenia Kalpaktsoglou, along with Sezer Cihaner Keser, a professor at Van Yüzüncüyıl University Faculty of Fine Arts, evaluated all applications with the participation of representatives from Gate 27 and ORTA. The project with the highest score was invited to the program. 

As part of the program, we will host Damla Yalçın at our Istanbul premises from February 1 to March 17. The artist will work on her interdisciplinary project focusing on the use of alternative materials for denim production. The project includes research, experimentation, and artwork production through slime molds and Scoby, which can be used to ferment kombucha tea.
